Testimony from our benevolent mentor, Sylvain Moise Bumba (DRC)
On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, Renewed Hope in Future, through its EcoPeaceProjet program, organized a scientific day dedicated to biodiversity and eco-friendly practices at the Catholic Convention School ITAV-MAKA, located in Walungu Territory, South Kivu Province, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This event, a first in the region, brought together students to discuss environmental challenges and explore concrete actions to preserve biodiversity.
Awareness and Youth Engagement
This event served as an opportunity to reflect on how individuals, especially youth, can contribute to environmental preservation. Using educational tools provided by Youth Conservation and guided by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), students gained a better understanding of current challenges related to biodiversity and natural resource management. The primary goal was to encourage them to adopt daily eco-actions while highlighting the importance of individual contributions to collective impact.
Establishment of an Environmental Club
A key moment of the day was the proposal to establish an environmental club within the school. This club will serve as a platform for students to continue exploring and promoting local conservation initiatives while raising awareness among their peers about ecological issues. It will act as a catalyst for youth engagement and the implementation of nature conservation projects at a local level.
Insights from Mr. Paul Babin: A Global Perspective
The day was enriched by the presence of our ambassador, Mr. Paul Babin, who traveled from France to share his experiences and perspectives on environmental conservation in a European context. His presentation provided students with valuable insights into the challenges and solutions being implemented in Europe while emphasizing the importance of global solidarity in addressing environmental threats.
Dynamic and Interactive Facilitation
The session was led by Mr. Sylvain, whose interactive approach fostered meaningful and constructive exchanges with the students. The discussions strengthened the students’ commitment and inspired them to think critically about everyday actions they can take to contribute to biodiversity preservation and sustainable development.
A Pivotal Step Toward a Sustainable Future in Walungu
This initiative represents a significant milestone in empowering the youth of Walungu to pursue a sustainable future. By equipping them with practical knowledge and tools, Renewed Hope in Future, in collaboration with Youth Conservation, has strengthened the community’s resilience against environmental challenges. This event has equipped students to actively participate in preserving their local environment.
We hope this initiative will inspire other young individuals to get involved and take concrete measures to protect their ecosystems and contribute actively to sustainable development.
