Testimony from our benevolent mentor in togo, Témoignage par notre tuteur togolais, Bertin Hanaka
In November 2024, I had the opportunity to participate in a mangrove reforestation project in Aného, located in the Lacs region, alongside two friends who are passionate about nature. As a Youth Conservation tutor, I was delighted to see them join this initiative after discovering our platform and our missions. Together, we planted Rhizophora mangroves, which are crucial for preserving our environment.
Mangroves: A Vital Ecosystem
Mangroves are unique coastal ecosystems that provide a wide range of vital services for the planet and local communities:
- Protection against erosion: The roots of mangroves act as natural barriers, protecting coastlines from storms and waves.
- Refuge for biodiversity: They shelter a variety of animal species, including fish and birds, that rely on these ecosystems for feeding and breeding.
- Combatting climate change: Due to their ability to store large amounts of carbon, mangroves actively contribute to mitigating climate change.
By replanting the Rhizophora mangroves, we strengthened the resilience of this fragile ecosystem while taking concrete action to preserve biodiversity.
Acting for the Future
This activity was not just a symbolic act but a tangible gesture for a greener and more resilient future in the face of current climate challenges. Each of us has a role to play in preserving our planet, and by coming together around these collective actions, we can create a lasting impact.
A big thank you to all the participants, and especially to Youth Conservation, for allowing us to make a difference in protecting our environment. Together, we can work towards a more just and nature-respecting world.
Together, for a Greener Future 💚
