The initiative “Acting for Nature Conservation – Educating and Empowering Future Eco-Citizens in Africa”, launched early 2025 in partnership with the Audemars Watkins Foundation and Play for Nature, is already showing promising results on the ground!
This initiative supports 10 NGOs actively working in Burkina Faso, Benin, Cameroon, Senegal, and Madagascar. Their shared mission: raising youth awareness about environmental preservation through educational and engaging activities.
Numerous initiatives have already been rolled out. Despite the intense heat and heavy rains, children and young people are enthusiastic, school administrators and teachers are highly involved, and the NGOs are more motivated than ever!
Today, we’re highlighting the many activities carried out by the NGO Lamoty Conservation in Madagascar.
🌱 Engaging Youth for Nature: LAMOTY Conservation in Action in Andamoty, Madagascar
As part of the Acting for Nature Conservation project, the NGO LAMOTY Conservation has recently led an ambitious environmental education campaign in Andamoty, Madagascar. The initiative focused on mobilizing students, teachers, and local communities in the protection of biodiversity.
📚 Teaching Biodiversity from an Early Age
The program was implemented in three local schools, anchored by the creation and facilitation of environmental clubs. These dynamic spaces allowed young people to explore the richness of their natural heritage: forests, wetlands, lemurs, and endemic species such as the Simpona.
Weekly educational sessions addressed key topics such as climate change, deforestation, and eco-friendly behavior. These learning moments were reinforced by hands-on actions, essential to making the knowledge tangible.
🌿 Acting Together for the Environment
With strong support from their teachers, students took an active role in reforestation efforts, school garden creation, and daily eco-actions. This practical component played a key role in developing long-term environmental awareness.
LAMOTY Conservation also participated in several local environmental events, helping involve youth and local authorities in a shared conservation effort.
📢 Raising Awareness Beyond the Classroom
To reach a broader audience, radio programs were aired in collaboration with a local station, raising awareness among over 20,000 people on topics such as Madagascar’s biodiversity, climate change, and the protection of endangered species.
✅ Concrete and Promising Results
The program achieved encouraging outcomes:
- Over 1,500 students sensitized
- 03 environmental clubs created
- 800 young trees planted
- A notable increase in eco-responsible practices among students and teachers
This experience has strengthened LAMOTY Conservation’s local presence and laid the foundation for sustainable and continuous environmental education in Andamoty. A model initiative that highlights the vital role of youth in protecting our planet.
