Testimony of our benevolent mentor in Burkina Faso, Didier Aristide BATIONO
In a world where environmental conservation is more crucial than ever, educating younger generations plays a decisive role. It is in this perspective that the project “Eco-Engagement: Young Guardians of Nature for a Sustainable Future” was initiated. In Burkina Faso, the NGO Oly-agri, at the initiative of our volunteer tutor, with the technical support of Youth Conservation, recently conducted an awareness campaign at Teeg-wendé School in Ouahigouya, located in the Yatenga province, Northern region.
Raising Awareness to Better Protect
The primary objective of this initiative is to help students understand biodiversity and the interactions that exist within nature. During this session, young participants were encouraged to reflect on harmful elements to the environment and recognize those that contribute to its protection. By strengthening their knowledge, these future guardians of nature gradually become engaged actors in the preservation of their ecosystem.
A Concrete Impact: Maintaining the School Garden
One tangible result of this awareness campaign is the increased involvement of students in maintaining their school garden. By gaining a better understanding of the importance of each species and the consequences of human actions on the environment, they develop a sense of responsibility and adopt more environmentally friendly behaviors.
A Collective Commitment for a Sustainable Future
This awareness program is carried out with the technical support of Youth Conservation, a platform created by IUCN PACO (International Union for Conservation of Nature, Program of Action for Nature Conservation in West and Central Africa). It is part of a broader initiative aimed at actively involving young people in environmental protection and providing them with the necessary tools to take action.
We extend our sincere thanks to all the partners who made this initiative possible: the Ministry of Education, the regional and provincial directorate of preschool, primary, and non-formal education, the principal of Teeg-wendé School, Madam Safiatou Ouédraogo, as well as the entire teaching staff. Their commitment is essential in inspiring and shaping the eco-citizens of tomorrow.
Today more than ever, it is essential to introduce young people to environmental issues and encourage them to adopt responsible behaviors. Every action counts, and together we will build a sustainable future.
