🌱 Creation of a CPN Club at CEG Houègbo: An Initiative for the Future of the Environment 🌍 (Benin)

Discover the testimony from our benevolent mentor, Eltsine SAHGUI

On December 4, 2024, a significant initiative for environmental preservation was launched at the Collège d’Enseignement Général (CEG) Houègbo, in the commune of Toffo. In collaboration with the Departmental Directorate of Secondary Education and Vocational Training, the Réseau des Jeunes Solidaires pour la Protection de l’Environnement (RJSPE-ONG) established a CPN Club (Know and Protect Nature), aiming to raise environmental awareness among young people and provide them with a space for concrete learning and action.

Training Tomorrow’s Leaders for Nature Protection

The primary goal of this program, titled “Green Ambassadors,” is to develop a new generation of leaders committed to environmental protection. During the first session, over 125 students from both cycles were introduced to the importance of protecting nature. They were taught key concepts such as biodiversity, climate change, and sustainable development—crucial themes for understanding today’s ecological challenges.

Key Themes for the Planet’s Future

Over the coming months, students will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of environmental issues through a variety of essential themes for a sustainable future:

  • Understanding the environment and its vital role for the planet.
  • Exploring agroecology and its positive impact on ecosystems.
  • Discussing climate change and the necessary actions to combat it.
  • Raising awareness about sustainable development and the role of individuals in preserving natural resources.
  • Addressing biodiversity loss and the importance of protecting natural habitats.
  • Studying forests and their crucial role in ecological balance.
  • Learning waste sorting, a fundamental step for environmental care.

Practicing Nature Conservation: A Vegetable Garden and Nursery

To reinforce their learning, concrete projects will be implemented within the school. A vegetable garden and nursery will allow students to put their knowledge into practice while actively contributing to nature conservation. These initiatives will provide an ideal setting for applying principles of agroecology and sustainable resource management.

Acknowledgments and Collaboration

We warmly thank the administration of CEG Houègbo, the Ministry of Secondary Education and Vocational Training, and all the students for their collaboration and commitment. Together, we are acting today to preserve tomorrow!
