A Day Dedicated to Environmental Awareness in the DRC
As part of the EcoPeaceProjet, an activity titled “Gathering for Conservation” was organized on December 14, 2024, with children from the rural primary school EP Mbuyi, located in Kabare Miti, in the Bugore area of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This event brought together more than 100 children, beneficiaries of the organization’s education program.
Objectives of the Day: Education and Awareness
Promoting Conservation and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The main goals of the day were twofold:
- Raise awareness among children about nature conservation,
- Introduce the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for a more sustainable future.
Through tailored educational methods, the children learned about simple, concrete actions to preserve their environment while understanding their key role in achieving the SDGs.
Interactive and Engaging Activities
Environmental Education Experts
The session was led by:
- Moïse B. Sylvain, coordinator of Renewed Hope for the Future (RHF) and environmental education tutor, certified by IUCN and Youth Conservation.
- Mr. Bienvenue, also trained via the Youth Conservation online platform.
These passionate educators utilized interactive teaching tools to actively engage the children. Discussions, exchanges, and practical examples sparked their curiosity while encouraging lasting commitment to environmental protection.
Simple Actions for a Lasting Impact
The children learned to:
- Adopt responsible behaviors to protect nature,
- Understand the importance of small daily actions in building a more sustainable world.
The interactive approaches helped create a strong connection between the young participants and the principles of sustainable development.
Supporting Education to Build the Future
At the end of this enriching day, each child received essential school supplies. This initiative aimed to:
- Support their education,
- Strengthen their motivation to pursue studies and engage in building a better future.
A Success for Education and Conservation
The “Gathering for Conservation” was a great success. This day laid a solid foundation for promoting:
- Environmental protection,
- Education as a driver of change,
- Peace within rural communities in Kabare Miti.
